The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has been awarded $71,460,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America Grant Program.
The federal funding will be used to complete the construction of the 15.6-mile Greenville Bypass, which will carry US 82 from near the Greenville bridge over the Mississippi River to Leland.
President Donald Trump sent out a tweet on Thursday afternoon, saying the completion of the bridge is “so important for economic growth in the area and reducing travel times through Western Mississippi on US 82!”
$71.5M will be headed to @MississippiDOT from @USDOT to finish the Greenville Bypass in Washington County. So important for economic growth in the area and reducing travel times through Western Mississippi on US 82!
