Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is warning you about a new scam with the fraudsters posing as the IRS.
In a series of social media posts, Fitch explained that an email, coming from what appears to be an IRS account, threatens to press legal charges if outstanding payments are not made immediately.
In addition to saying that the IRS will never initiate contact with taxpayers via email, Fitch also provided the following ways you can identify the scam.
If you believe you’ve fallen victim to a scam, call the AGO Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-281-4418.
