For the second day in a row, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting over 2,000 cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report, which consists of 2,283 new cases with 42 additional deaths, brings the state’s total numbers up to 172,955 cases and 4,083 deaths.
Hospitalizations continue to rapidly increase as 1,128 people—the highest since the onset of the pandemic—are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19.
On Wednesday, the state’s largest one-day single rise in positive cases, Governor Tate Reeves placed 61 of the state’s 82 counties under a mask mandate while also announcing further restrictions on social gatherings.
