The Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Revenue (DOR) has officially retired, effective Tuesday, June 30th.
Governor Tate Reeves made the announcement via Twitter this morning by saying, “DOR Commissioner Herb Frierson sent me his letter of resignation late yesterday after 40 years of service. He was a pretty good coach, a great legislator, excellent Commissioner, and an even better friend. Enjoy your well-deserved downtime, Herb!”
Frierson was appointed to the position of Revenue Commissioner by then-Governor Phil Bryant and took office July 1, 2016.
Prior to that, Frierson served twenty-five years in the Mississippi House of Representatives; the last five as Appropriations Chairman. Commissioner Frierson has twenty-four years of experience in real estate with twenty years specializing in real estate appraisal.
Prior to serving in public office and in real estate, he was a public school teacher and coach with a Bachelor’s in Education.
Frierson is married and has two children and one grandchild.
