The former Speaker of the Mississippi House has passed away.
Billy McCoy, a democrat, was elected to the state House in 1979, serving a total of 28 years. He served as speaker from January 2004 until January 2012.
McCoy died at Tuesday, at the age of 77, at a hospital in Tupelo where he had been for nearly two weeks due to illness. Funeral services are set to be held Friday.
