The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,457 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report—following higher weekend totals of 2,680 cases on Saturday and 1,606 on Sunday— brings the state’s total number of cases up to 253,932. With the confirmation of 3 additional deaths—after 70 on Saturday and 40 on Sunday—5,524 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
Hospital data has not yet been updated in today’s report. Heading into the weekend, overall hospitalizations dropped below 1,300 for the first time since late December.
Friday, Governor Tate Reeves extended his executive order until February 3rd placing a mask mandate on the following 75 counties.
Alcorn, Amite, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clarke, Claiborne, Clay, Coahoma, Copiah, Covington, DeSoto, Forrest, Franklin, George, Greene, Grenada, Hancock, Harrison, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Itawamba, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lafayette, Lamar, Lauderdale, Leake, Lee, Leflore, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, Smith, Stone, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Walthall, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Webster, Winston, Yalobusha and Yazoo Counties.
The current order also maintains a limit of 10 people for indoor gatherings in Mississippi and 50 people for outdoor gatherings when social distancing is not possible.
