For the second time this week, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting the state’s largest one-day increase of new COVID-19 cases.
Today’s report of 2,480—the third consecutive day over 2,000 new cases—brings the state’s total up to 161,516. With the confirmation of *37 additional deaths, 3,916 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
MSDH Note: 14 COVID-19 related deaths occurred November 10 and November 29, identified from death certificate reports.
After a slight dip on Thursday, overall hospitalizations saw an increase in today’s report.
As cases continue to soar, remember that 54 of Mississippi’s 82 counties are currently under a mask mandate and stricter social distancing guidelines limiting indoor gatherings to 10 and outdoor gatherings to 50.

The MSDH has also issued new public health guidance, advising all Mississippians to avoid social gatherings such as parties, weddings, in-person church services and funerals.
