Following a lengthy delay, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 975 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report — the highest number of new cases in a single day since August 19th — brings the state’s total number of cases up to 101,678. With the confirmation of *14 additional deaths, 3,027 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

After dipping below 400 over the weekend, overall hospitalizations have risen in consecutive days.
Last Wednesday, Governor Tate Reeves allowed Mississippi’s statewide mask mandate to expire and eased certain social distancing restrictions. Masks are still required in schools and in “close contact businesses” like salons and barbershops.
