A training exercise at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg left around 20 paratroopers injured on Wednesday night.

Camp Shelby is currently hosting ‘Operation Arctic Anvil’, and as troopers jumped from a C-130 aircraft, a gust of wind caused them to miss their intended drop zone. According to a post from the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 12 of the injured troopers were taken to a local hospital and others were treated on-site. Luckily, none of the reported injuries are life-threatening.

The Mississippi National Guard detailed the accident in a post of their own while also outlining certain safety protocols that were enacted ahead of the exercise.

According to Camp Shelby, Arctic Anvil is a 10-day operation that consists of force-on-force training exercises that include live, virtual, and constructive elements. These training exercises provide realistic unified land operations that prepare brigade combat teams for validation.
