An inmate at Parchman is dead after an apparent suicide.
According to the MDOC, the unnamed inmate was found hanging in his one-man cell at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman on Wednesday morning. Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton stated that the death in Unit 29 appears to be by hanging.
The investigation into the death is ongoing.
This is the second suicide at Parchman in the past four days, and two other inmates were killed during a fight on Monday night.
Parchman is the only remaining prison under lockdown following an outbreak of gang violence that left five inmates dead at three different prisons.
