Republican Tate Reeves has been elected as Mississippi’s next Governor.
Reeves defeated Democrat Jim Hood, and when the race was called, he held a 53.5% to 45.2% lead. Independent candidate David Singletary grabbed 1% of the vote, and Constitution Party candidate Bob Hickingbottom finished with .3%.
On his way to becoming the Governor-elect, the current Lt. Governor received high profile support from President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and current Governor Phil Bryant. Following the election, President Trump tweeted his congratulations to Reeves.

Hood gave his concession speech at his campaign event, and said that even in defeat, he feels that the race brought many important issues to light.
Earlier today, many people believed this race could’ve been decided in the Mississippi House of Representatives, but Reeves was able to receive a majority of the popular vote and carry a majority of the state’s House Districts to win the election.
